2023 Vin de Pays de Vaucluse Rouge
Selected by Kermit Lynch
When strangers learn I work for Kermit Lynch, many reveal they have a reliable hack for browsing their local wine shops: turn the bottle around, and if it has our back label, they know to trust it. With our “Selected by” line of wines, no flipping is required; the guarantee is written on the front! We partnered with the Leydier family (who also makes the beloved wines at Domaine de Durban) to dream up our most quintessentially southern Rhône country red. Black olive, fresh fig, and rosemary abound in this easy-to-love, soulful quaffer and perennial bargain.

2022 Côtes-du-Rhône Rouge “Contre Couleur”
France | Southern Rhône
Deep, dynamic Grenache feels aptly highlighted by bright and fresh Clairette. Soft and rich, yet still defined.
2024 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc “La Crau”
France | Southern Rhône
Clairette, an unsung hero of the south, is the main grape here, undoubtedly one of many key elements to this singular wine.
2023 Côtes du Rhône Rouge
France | Southern Rhône
Dark-fruited, with fresh acidity and stony tannins, it’s about as versatile as reds come from the south of France.
2023 Châteauneuf-du-Pape “La Crau”
France | Southern Rhône
There’s a gentle veil of minerality, and the nose is expansive, making way for notes that are more spiced than fruity.
2023 Côtes-du-Rhône “La Sagesse”
France | Southern Rhône
La Sagesse carries the full flavor, succulence, and savoriness we associate with Grenache on a graceful and lively frame.
2024 Côtes du Rhône Villages Rouge
France | Southern Rhône
We aimed for maximum drinkability: plenty of hedonistic purple-tinged fruit, along with a hint of wild herbs and lovely lavender and violet notes.
2023 Côtes-du-Rhône “L’Emouvante”
France | Southern Rhône
Deep, concentrated, and refreshingly saline, this is like great Cornas with Mediterranean influences.
2022 Tavel “La Combe des Rieu”
France | Southern Rhône
This bears a rich bouquet of wild strawberry, flowers, garrigue, and sweet spices, culminating in a long, stony finale.
2024 Vin de Pays de Vaucluse Blanc “Le Pigeoulet”
France | Southern Rhône
The blend is equal parts Roussanne, Grenache Blanc, and Clairette. Together, they create a wine that has a complex mouth-feel that finishes with a nice refreshing acidity.
2024 Vin de Pays de Vaucluse Rouge

October Club Gourmand ~ Black olive, fig, and rosemary abound in this easy-to-love, soulful southern Rhône red.

Every three or four months I would send my clients a cheaply made list of my inventory, but it began to dawn on me that business did not pick up afterwards. It occurred to me that my clientele might not know what Château Grillet is, either. One month in 1974 I had an especially esoteric collection of wines arriving, so I decided to put a short explanation about each wine into my price list, to try and let my clients know what to expect when they uncorked a bottle. The day after I mailed that brochure, people showed up at the shop, and that is how these little propaganda pieces for fine wine were born.—Kermit Lynch
