When strangers learn I work for Kermit Lynch, many reveal they have a reliable hack for browsing their local wine shops: turn the bottle around, and if it has our back label, they know to trust it. With our “Selected by” line of wines, no flipping is required; the guarantee is written on the front! We partnered with the Leydier family (who also makes the beloved wines at Domaine de Durban) to dream up our most quintessentially southern Rhône country red. Black olive, fresh fig, and rosemary abound in this easy-to-love, soulful quaffer and perennial bargain.

Sampling wine out of the barrel.

When buying red Burgundy, I think we should remember:

1. Big wines do not age better than light wine.
2. A so-called great vintage at the outset does not guarantee a great vintage for the duration.
3. A so-called off vintage at the outset does not mean the wines do not have a brilliant future ahead of them.
4. Red Burgundy should not taste like Guigal Côte-Rôtie, even if most wine writers wish it would.
5. Don’t follow leaders; watch yer parking meters.
