2024 Ventoux Rouge “Mégaphone”
Famille Brunier
ATTENTION, PLEASE! Daniel and Frédéric Brunier are celebrities in the southern Rhône. Their all-star lineup of reds can attest: they are responsible for Vieux Télégraphe’s grand Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the mighty Gigondas of Les Pallières, and the deliciously approachable, everyday Pigeoulet. Mégaphone rounds out this standout cast, representing an effort to highlight a terroir on the slopes of the Dentelles de Montmirail, previously used in the Pigeoulet blend. The decision certainly paid off. Mégaphone remains imminently accessible while showing the character of a more prestigious red. This blend of 80% Grenache and 20% Syrah announces itself loud and clear on the palate, with amplified flavors that are sure to reach a wide audience. Sweet cherries, réglisse, garrigue, and dusty earth abound in this incredibly fresh and smooth red, with no screechy or gritty tannins.

About The Producer
Famille Brunier
Vignobles Brunier embodies the ensemble of the holdings by the Brunier family. Brothers Frédéric and Daniel are the fourth generation of their family to farm the land of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. They have worked hard to solidify the legacy left by their father, Henri, and their great-grandfather, Hippolyte. In 1986, the family complemented their portfolio, offering more affordable cuvées that showcase the diversity of terroirs within their holdings. The “Pigeoulet” and “Mégaphone” are fresh, rich in fruit and easy to appreciate young. The red Châteauneuf “Piedlong”, sourced from the Piélong lieu-dit, is a profoundly mineral wine that balances elegance and purity with the muscle that is found in this great appellation.

I want you to realize once and for all: Even the winemaker does not know what aging is going to do to a new vintage; Robert Parker does not know; I do not know. We all make educated (hopefully) guesses about what the future will bring, but guesses they are. And one of the pleasures of a wine cellar is the opportunity it provides for you to witness the evolution of your various selections. Living wines have ups and downs just as people do, periods of glory and dog days, too. If wine did not remind me of real life, I would not care about it so much.
