2024 Collines Rhodaniennes Syrah “Les Hautes Ribaudes”
Lionel Faury
One of the best sources of value in all of France is in the everyday reds of the greatest northern Rhône growers. Lionel Faury certainly ranks among these growers, and as exquisite as his Saint-Josephs and Côte-Rôties are, if you are looking for an abundance of character on a weeknight budget, you can’t do better than his Collines Rhodaniennes Syrah “Les Hautes Ribaudes.” In fact, of all his bottlings, this one may best align with Lionel’s own temperament: unpretentious, charming, and full of pleasant surprises. I can just picture him popping the cork after winning one of his countless national titles of joute nautique (i.e. water jousting, look it up!), and passing the bottle joyously among his teammates along with a casse-croûte.
For this cuvée, Lionel sources his Syrah from vines that stretch across the plateau above Saint-Joseph’s steep slopes. The high-altitude granite terroir gives this lithe red freshness in spades as well as a mouthwateringly mineral finish. Evoking black pepper, brambly fruit, and a leafy earthiness, this is a KLWM staff favorite every vintage—and a perfect French country red!

2023 Condrieu
France | Northern Rhône
Its ravishing perfume, luxurious body and texture, and unique abilities at table endow this Condrieu with a special place in the connoisseur’s cellar.
2001 Côte-Rôtie
France | Northern Rhône
**Extremely limited quantities, maximum two bottles per purchase.**
2022 Saint-Joseph Rouge
France | Northern Rhône
The greatest southern Saint-Josephs recall the wines of Hermitage, and the greatest northern examples resemble Côte-Rôtie. André’s are certainly among the finest, and always have great density despite their seeming weightlessness and elegant bouquet.
2023 Collines Rhodaniennes Syrah “l’Art Zélé”
France | Northern Rhône
If you want to experience classic flavors of northern Rhône Syrah, here is a textbook example.
2023 Saint-Joseph Blanc “Les Ribaudes”
France | Northern Rhône
The 2023 falls perfectly in line with the house style: there is not a single sharp edge, only tender, succulent, ripe peachy fruit, plus a touch of honeysuckle to round things out.
2022 Saint Joseph Rouge “La Gloriette Vieilles Vignes”
France | Northern Rhône
The roots of these vines run deep, and deep is what you get in the glass, too—a rich mix of black olive, fennel, and raspberry.
2022 Côte-Rôtie “Les 3 Brunes”
France | Northern Rhône
Exuberant, dark-fruited aromatics melding with earthy undertones of bitter cacao. Delicious now, or mind-melting in ten years.
2021 Côte-Rôtie “Les 3 Brunes”
France | Northern Rhône
Irresistible notes of black olive, succulent black cherries, and spices
2022 Côte-Rôtie “Emporium”
France | Northern Rhône
The “Emporium” is sourced exclusively from the Fourvier lieu-dit and sees about a year more in demi-muid and barrel than his standard Côte-Rôtie.
2023 Saint Joseph Rouge “Les Ribaudes”
France | Northern Rhône
A testament to Lionel’s house style, Les Ribaudes is vibrant and juicy with a hint of peppery spice, and earthy minerality imprinted by its granite terroir. Old-school Saint-Joseph at its finest.
About The Producer
Lionel Faury
Along the steep, narrow valley that traces the northern Rhône, the appellations of Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu and Saint-Joseph take their place among the great wines of France, and Domaine Faury is one of the region’s most artisanal producers. When Philippe Faury took over the domaine in 1979, the family was selling wine, peaches and cherries, and the bulk of their clientele was local. Over the years, Philippe increased their holdings to over 11 hectares and began to sell internationally. He shared his savoir faire with his son, Lionel. Since 2006, Lionel has taken over the reins, though father and son still work side by side. Every method they use encourages the grape towards greatness with the ultimate respect for its fragility.

For the wines that I buy I insist that the winemaker leave them whole, intact. I go into the cellars now and select specific barrels or cuvées, and I request that they be bottled without stripping them with filters or other devices. This means that many of our wines will arrive with a smudge of sediment and will throw a more important deposit as time goes by, It also means the wine will taste better.
Promo Code Terms
There are two types of promo codes
1) a code that gives you a percentage off your order
2) a code that gives you a dollar amount off your order
How do promo codes or coupon codes work?
When you place an order with a percentage coupon code, the discount only applies to discount eligible items. An eligible item typically is a product that does not already have a discount. Sampler packs that already have discounts applied to them do not count towards the minimum of 12 eligible items. In your shopping cart, you'll see percentage discounts next to each bottle.
When you place an order with a dollar amount code, the dollar amount is added to your discount. In your shopping cart, the dollar amount is subtracted from your total, and does not show next to each bottle.
