No other region’s wines are more quaffable, more soifable, more undeniably easy-drinking than those of the Beaujolais. Though I relish the fresh, thirst-quenching charms of Beaujolais in all manner of seasons and settings, it has become an indispensable companion alongside the many simple pleasures of spring and summertime. For sun-soaked picnic perfection, pack a cooler with charcuterie, cheese, a baguette, and a bottle of rosé from Château Thivin or Nicole Chanrion’s blanc of direct-press Gamay. As burgers sizzle on the grill, slake your thirst with a red like the dense and dark-fruited Brouilly from Alex Foillard, or Guy Breton’s juicy Régnié with toothsome granitic crunch.
