2011 Hermitage “La Pierrelle”

In the glass, this translates to a rich, ample Syrah dominated by aromas of ripe blue and black fruits. La Pierrelle’s ideal exposure is a blessing, while the stony soil helps to return the sun’s heat at night and also contributes a meaty tannin—pierrelle alludes to these rocks, and you’ll find they certainly provide something to chew on. This is a pure Syrah in all its unbridled power, possessing the finesse of its high-altitude terroir with the muscle and aging potential that this great hill is famous for. Brought to you by vigneron Louis Barruol and blended by Kermit, this is a must-try for any northern Rhône enthusiast. –Anthony Lynch
