Here is our 2019 Black Friday pack selected specifically for lovers of red Burgundy. If you are interested in the white Burgundy-only pack or mixed pack, click here.
2018 Bourgogne Pinot Noir “Champs Cadet” • Domaine de la Cadette $36
This is young Pinot at its best: aromatic, expressive, and a true pleasure to drink.
2017 Marsannay Rouge “Clos du Roy” • Régis Bouvier $41
Bouvier fashions a red from his Clos du Roy parcel that is at once serious and gay, generous and firm, bold and elegant.
2017 Savigny-lès-Beaune “Vieilles Vignes” • Pierre Guillemot $42
The Savigny-lès-Beaune “Vieilles Vignes”—a blend of three parcels whose average vine age is half a century—is always a pale cranberry in the glass, but don’t let that fool you into thinking the wine is thin.
2017 Givry 1er Cru Rouge “A Vigne Rouge” • Domaine François Lumpp $59
The aromas are typical of fine Burgundy: raspberry, incense, cedar, and clove; on the palate, it presents a dense core and fine tannin. While all of François’s reds offer pleasure now and have good aging potential, none are more cellar-worthy than A Vigne Rouge.
2017 Gevrey-Chambertin • Lucien Boillot et Fils $82
Grandiose, opulent, black, and mysterious. No wonder this village, this domaine, and this wine have achieved such a reputation.
2017 Aloxe-Corton 1er Cru “Clos du Chapitre” • Domaine Follin-Arbelet $93
Clos du Chapitre evokes gorgeous red fruit with irresistible stoniness that gives it structure. As seductive as it is now, though, it will certainly evolve beautifully over the next ten to fifteen years.

2021 Rully Rouge 1er Cru “Les Champs Cloux”
France | Burgundy
Les Champs Cloux is fresh, with good acidity, but also among the domaine’s more robust reds.
2022 Bourgogne Passetoutgrain
France | Burgundy
If you look closely in cellars throughout Burgundy, you’ll notice many of the greatest domaines continue to uphold this tradition.
2023 Chablis 1er Cru “Vaillons”
France | Burgundy
An element of luscious, tender fruit that seems to coat the wine’s spinal chord of Kimmeridgian minerals.
2022 Chablis “Vieilles Vignes”
France | Burgundy
Everything about this cuvée, from the delicately briny scent of slick oyster shells to the concentrated, pristinely focused sensation on the palate, is a demonstration of why this domaine has become one of Chablis’ very best.
2023 Chablis 1er Cru “Vaillons”
France | Burgundy
A stunning value from one of Chablis’ oldest premier cru vineyards, with a lovely mouthful of stone fruit and hint of lemongrass.
2022 Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru “Les Fichots”
France | Burgundy
With plush notes of red fruit and cocoa abounding in the glass, this Pernand punches way above its weight.
About The Region
Burgundy
In eastern central France, Burgundy is nestled between the wine regions of Champagne to the north, the Jura to the east, the Loire to the west, and the Rhône to the south. This is the terroir par excellence for producing world-class Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
The southeast-facing hillside between Dijon in the north and Maranges in the south is known as the Côte d’Or or “golden slope.” The Côte d’Or comprises two main sections, both composed of limestone and clay soils: the Côte de Nuits in the northern sector, and the Côte de Beaune in the south. Both areas produce magnificent whites and reds, although the Côte de Beaune produces more white wine and the Côte de Nuits more red.
Chablis is Burgundy’s northern outpost, known for its flinty and age-worthy Chardonnays planted in Kimmeridgian limestone on an ancient seabed. Vézelay is a smaller area south of Chablis with similar qualities, although the limestone there is not Kimmeridgian.
To the south of the Côte de Beaune, the Côte Chalonnaise extends from Chagny on its northern end, down past Chalon-sur-Saône and encompasses the appellations of Bouzeron in the north, followed by Rully, Mercurey, Givry, and Montagny.
Directly south of the Chalonnaise begins the Côte Mâconnais, which extends south past Mâcon to the hamlets of Fuissé, Vinzelles, Chaintré, and Saint-Véran. The Mâconnais is prime Chardonnay country and contains an incredible diversity of soils.

For the wines that I buy I insist that the winemaker leave them whole, intact. I go into the cellars now and select specific barrels or cuvées, and I request that they be bottled without stripping them with filters or other devices. This means that many of our wines will arrive with a smudge of sediment and will throw a more important deposit as time goes by, It also means the wine will taste better.
