No dinner plan excites me as much as pizza night. Is there anything better than a constellation of mozzarella melting into a fresh and tangy tomato sauce, all coating a doughy, crispy, lightly charred crust?
Grabbing takeout or making your own pizza is also one of the easiest and most rewarding ways to create wine-and-food pairing magic at home. You almost can’t go wrong, but to go the most right, it’s best to turn to reds that have plenty of freshness and acidity from regions like Piedmont or Beaujolais. If these two regions feature the most obvious, home-run pairings, Corsica, Le Marche, and Friuli are less-known sources of equally outstanding wines that will take you to pizza bliss. Vignai da Duline’s peppery and vibrant Schioppettino, for instance, is one of the earliest inductees into my Pizza Wine Hall of Fame. La Marca di San Michele’s sparkling Spumante and white Passolento are also sleeper hits, particularly alongside veggie-forward pies. And the two Corsican rouges in this collection deliver as much playfulness, bite, and exuberance as pizza night demands! Buon appetito!
