2012 St.-Joseph Blanc
Domaine FaurySome claim Hermitage and Condrieu make greater whites. Greater for what? Value? No. Immediate gratification? No. Snobbery? Yes. So I say: Don’t be a snob, vote Saint Joseph! Actually, I’d say that a lot depends on the winemaking.
Faury’s 2012 offers obvious deliciousness—no beating around the bush. The nose is a complexity of lovely fruits and flowers. It offers a rare charm to the senses, and I have a weakness for charm. –Kermit Lynch

2021 Saint-Joseph Rouge
France | Northern Rhône
From high-altitude slopes above the Rhône river, this Syrah exhibits remarkable purity and grace.
2021 Condrieu
France | Northern Rhône
I would say that Faury does not make Viognier, but rather one hell of a Condrieu, replete with huge apricot and peach aromas and a fresh, regal palate.
2021 Collines Rhodaniennes Viognier “Les Ruisseaux”
France | Northern Rhône
Amid the lush fruit runs a delicate current of minerality that lingers on the tongue, as if the wine cascaded down a granite slope on its way into your glass.
2021 Saint-Joseph Rouge “L’Instinct”
France | Northern Rhône
It is a real-deal northern Rhône roasted-slope Syrah that walks the tightrope perfectly between creamy fruit, meaty tannins, and fresh spine.
2020 Crozes Hermitage “Tiercerolles”
France | Northern Rhône
This juicy, blueberry-and-leather-infused Syrah with a long finish is ready to drink tonight.
2018 Hermitage Blanc “La Pierrelle”
France | Northern Rhône
From vines that are more than eighty years old comes this Marsanne with magnificent floral, pit fruit, and bitter notes.
2020 Saint-Joseph Blanc
France | Northern Rhône
Like eating lemon curd at a party that Renoir might have painted—think something like Dance at Le Moulin de la Galette.
2020 Côte-Rôtie “Les Roses”
France | Northern Rhône
The magic of great Côte Rôtie does not come from its reputation for being a big, bombastic wine.
2020 Crozes-Hermitage Rouge
France | Northern Rhône
This small parcel has a fruit-forward, approachable style, yet with intense spice and licorice in there as well, perhaps from the deep-rooted old Syrah vines.
2022 Saint-Joseph Blanc “Clef de Sol”
France | Northern Rhône
Round and generous on first blush and then wound up, energetic, and fine-grained on the finish, this thoroughbred wine is sculpted for the cellar but still provides a lot of immediate gratification.

For the wines that I buy I insist that the winemaker leave them whole, intact. I go into the cellars now and select specific barrels or cuvées, and I request that they be bottled without stripping them with filters or other devices. This means that many of our wines will arrive with a smudge of sediment and will throw a more important deposit as time goes by, It also means the wine will taste better.
