Terroir may be a French word, but the boot spans over ten degrees in latitude from its border with Austria to Sicily’s southern extreme; its wide-ranging climates influenced by such monumental landmarks as the Alps, the Apennines, the Mediterranean, and the Adriatic.
    This geographical diversity is  equaled by Italy’s ancient history of human civilization, which has provided a stunning cultural heritage: the Greeks, Gauls, Slavs, Normans, Arabs, and Germanic peoples have all tried to stake a claim on this plentiful land, not to speak of its native Romans and their gargantuan impact on modern culture–and winemaking.
