The soils at Domaine de Reuilly rest on the prized Kimmeridgian limestone, a geological chain that runs through nearby Sancerre as well as Chablis and southern Champagne. This limestone is characterized by its high content of marine fossils dating back 150 million years and is known for producing exceptional wines across several appellations.
Former proprietor Denis Jamain practiced sustainable agriculture for many years in the small appellation of Reuilly, earning organic and biodynamic certifications for the domaine. His wines have been KLWM benchmarks ever since Kermit introduced Denis’ Sauvignon Blanc in 2001: “Our bottling, Pierres Plates, is from a specific vineyard with Chablis-like soil full of chalk, fossils, and seashells…The fruit is lovely, with white flower perfumes, citrus, and minerality. It has finesse and precision.”
Denis retired in 2023, but the domaine remains in good hands with new owner Joseph de Maistre. Joseph worked closely with Denis for several years before fully taking over, and he has preserved the charming, mouthwatering style of Les Pierres Plates, as well as Reuilly’s other specialties: a delicate rosé of Pinot Gris and a supple, fruit-driven Pinot Noir.
