You may have read—perhaps even in other KLWM offers, some bearing my own name—that variety is the spice of life, and the world’s many great wine regions have something unique to offer to keep a diverse and intriguing rotation of bottles gracing your table year-round.
     In reality—and forgive me for the contradiction—all you really need is Beaujolais. Gamay, produced in the perfect climatic conditions of its spiritual homeland, offers the most irresistible, hedonistic, universally delicious wines imaginable. Good Beaujolais has no ifs or buts; it hits the spot all year round, young and old, Monday through Sunday, with or without food or even proper glassware. What other wine region can boast such extravagant claims?
     Sweeping statements aside, we are proud to represent a talented, conscientious, and ever-progressing group of vignerons from this vinous promised land where many of our relationships span decades. For this sampler, we selected wines from six of the region’s ten crus to give you an idea of the many wonderful ways in which Gamay reacts to the diverse terroirs of the Beaujolais. From the granitic crunch of Guy Breton’s utterly quaffable Régnié, to the luscious, intoxicating cherry fruit in Thévenet’s velvety old-vine Morgon, to the thumping power of Diochon’s Moulin-à-Vent, you will enjoy a delightful taste of this charming region proving that Beaujolais really can do it all.
