How do you define a wine “icon”? By ratings and scores? By the number of vintages under their belt? By the hallowed terroir with which they work? By the trails they’ve blazed or the flags they’ve carried? With a legendary portfolio five decades in the making, it is no simple task to narrow down our most “iconic” offerings here at Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant...But these twelve are undoubtedly among them, representing a group of producers who are each icons in their own right—whether as heralded champions within their unique appellations, or as industry luminaries ascending the ladder of wine list notoriety. This unprecedented mixed case of portfolio heavyweights is our best deal of the year.

Sampling wine out of the barrel.

When buying red Burgundy, I think we should remember:

1. Big wines do not age better than light wine.
2. A so-called great vintage at the outset does not guarantee a great vintage for the duration.
3. A so-called off vintage at the outset does not mean the wines do not have a brilliant future ahead of them.
4. Red Burgundy should not taste like Guigal Côte-Rôtie, even if most wine writers wish it would.
5. Don’t follow leaders; watch yer parking meters.
