Kuentz-Bas, the historic domaine in the picturesque Alsatian village of Husseren-les-Châteaux, has managed to craft a series of wines to keep us engaged, on our toes, and refreshed most every night of the week.
     To start, there are three weeknight whites: a Pinot Blanc, Riesling, and Pinot Gris, each versatile enough to pair well with a variety of plates, from a sliver of velvety Saint-André on crusty baguette to saag paneer.      Then you have one of the best Pinot Noir bargains in the world. The 2022 is an elegant, ethereal rendition clocking in at 12.5% alcohol. Perfect for sipping chilled alongside chèvre or charcuterie, it also shines with a plate of hummus and falafel.
     For the weekend fireworks, pop open Kuentz-Bas’s graceful and stimulating Crémant. Made from Pinot Blanc and Auxerrois—a blend you will only ever find in Alsace—it exudes a real sense of place discernible through its unique aromatics.
     Finally, follow the sparkler with what is maybe the greatest grand cru value anywhere: the 2018 Riesling “Geisberg.” One of just a few domaines to make wine from this celebrated vineyard, Kuentz-Bas is blessed with two hectares of seventy-year-old Riesling vines that produce a zesty, mouthwatering, impeccably balanced grand cru with notes of peach, Meyer lemon, and chalk.
