Fall Value Pack

12-Bottle Sampler

Fall Value Pack 12-Bottle Sampler - Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant

It’s that time of the season…the leaves are changing colors, the days are shortening, and there is a nippy chill in the air. Time to stock up on some fuller-bodied wines to match the autumnal fare and keep us warm during the fall months!
Hold on…did I just mindlessly regurgitate every single wine offer made this time of year by every wine retailer ever, ourselves included, since the concept of the wine offer was born? My apologies—it seems my sensitivity to trite sales pitches has followed heirloom tomatoes and drippingly juicy peaches out the door, hopefully to reappear before next summer. But you know what? Forget all that. Here in the Bay Area, at least, we are enjoying our typically late Indian Summer, so the Barolos in my cellar will have to wait until my annual vacation to Siberia because, hell, I still want to sip rosé and quaff bright, juicy reds through November—and beyond, if we’re being honest. So I’ll do us all the favor of dropping the squash-is-now-in-season, prepare-a-hearty-stew mentality and just tell it like it is: fall is here, and you can drink whatever it is you damn please.
With that said, we’ve picked out a dozen wines in all styles—bubbly, pink, crisp whites, light reds, and of course, a couple of brooding, earthy reds to serve with the wild mushrooms and roast game you were most certainly craving—and tossed in a nice discount to ensure you are guaranteed a tasty drink regardless of the local weather, no matter what you may be in the mood for. Cheers, my friends, to seasonal changes, and may your glass stay ever full.

When buying red Burgundy, I think we should remember:

1. Big wines do not age better than light wine.
2. A so-called great vintage at the outset does not guarantee a great vintage for the duration.
3. A so-called off vintage at the outset does not mean the wines do not have a brilliant future ahead of them.
4. Red Burgundy should not taste like Guigal Côte-Rôtie, even if most wine writers wish it would.
5. Don’t follow leaders; watch yer parking meters.
