To the Brim! Reds

6-Bottle Sampler

This sampler would surely be amiss without red Burgundy, and Bernard Bouvier’s “Les Longeroies” felt like just the one; it showcases beguiling notes of dark cherry, black tea, and baking spices from the oldest vines at the domaine. Dig in!

Our 6-pack offering of red wines this year runs the gamut, including a mix of classic appellations from lovable growers from all over France and Italy. We begin with Baudry’s “Les Granges,” a finely perfumed and silky Loire Cabernet Franc in its purest form. From Beaujolais, we selected the mineral-laden Régnié from Guy Breton which will have you floating on a Gamay-infused cloud of fresh picked berries. This sampler would surely be amiss without red Burgundy, and Bernard Bouvier’s “Les Longeroies” felt like just the one; it showcases beguiling notes of dark cherry, black tea, and baking spices from the oldest vines at the domaine. And of course, to round out the French selections, a northern Rhône Syrah is a must. Faury’s old-school Saint Joseph, with its bright and fragrant notes of black pepper and a touch of brine, is a dream. From Italy, enjoy a velvety and structured Piemontese Nebbiolo from Cantine Garrone as well as Castagnoli’s refined and chiseled Chianti Classico. Dig in!

Inspiring Thirst

I want you to realize once and for all: Even the winemaker does not know what aging is going to do to a new vintage; Robert Parker does not know; I do not know. We all make educated (hopefully) guesses about what the future will bring, but guesses they are. And one of the pleasures of a wine cellar is the opportunity it provides for you to witness the evolution of your various selections. Living wines have ups and downs just as people do, periods of glory and dog days, too. If wine did not remind me of real life, I would not care about it so much.
