2024 Colli Trevigiani Merlot
Italy | Veneto
The most surprising thing about this Merlot is not that it’s from the Veneto. Nor is it that it comes from a family better known for cultivating the region’s nearly forgotten native varieties into sparkling and white wines—of which this is decidedly neither. What it is, however, is supple, silky, deep, and earthy, with notes of black currant and peppercorn. Youthful, vibrant Merlot that’s ready to go, right out of the gate? Now that’s a surprise.
Vino Spumante “Cuvée dei Vignato”
Italy | Veneto
Ever heard of Durella? Me neither, before this bottle, which is aged more than four years before its release. Toasty and complex with an amber hue, it is produced in the metodo classico—similar to Champagne—and carries an air of sophistication, but without breaking the bank. Hazelnuts and stone fruit for days.
2025 Bardolino Chiaretto Rosé “Nichesole”
Italy | Veneto
A cocktail bar I once ran in New York had a seasonal drink featuring Campari and watermelon. With its arrival came the promise of warm weather and longer days. The Piccoli family has aptly captured this feeling with their crisp, thirst-quenching rosé that recalls days lounging in the sun; it’s fun, refreshing, and finishes with an elegant touch of bitterness.
