2019 Beaumes-de-Venise Rouge

Domaine de Durban
Discount Eligible $20.00
SOLD OUT

If I could, I would nominate Henri Leydier, Durban’s proprietor and winemaker, for “World’s Kindest Soul.” Wouldn’t that be a nice award to give, in our current environment of loud and angry? Henri is one of those rare people with quiet, genuine goodness and old-fashioned Provençal charm, and his wines exude that easygoing grace. This Beaumes isn’t exactly a simple wine, but it’s definitely not hard to wrap your head around. It’s plush, juicy, clean, and pure—perfect for some time away from the noise.

Chris Santini

Sampling wine out of the barrel.

When buying red Burgundy, I think we should remember:

1. Big wines do not age better than light wine.
2. A so-called great vintage at the outset does not guarantee a great vintage for the duration.
3. A so-called off vintage at the outset does not mean the wines do not have a brilliant future ahead of them.
4. Red Burgundy should not taste like Guigal Côte-Rôtie, even if most wine writers wish it would.
5. Don’t follow leaders; watch yer parking meters.
