2017 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru “Hameau de Blagny”
Comtesse de ChériseyDon’t be fooled by the “Countess” in the estate name here. There may be some noble blood in the Martelet family, but you won’t find any lords idling around an old château. You will find, however, one of the hardest-working families in Burgundy. The Martelets keep the more arduous (and often most important) vineyard tasks for themselves and lead by example with an old-school Burgundian work ethic that is reflected in the distinction of their wines. Their Puligny from the high-altitude hamlet of Blagny is rich and full, yet energetic and mineral, all balanced out just perfectly. Noble is as noble does.

The Follin family’s reds are some of the most delicious I have tasted, none more so than their incredibly vibrant and pure Aloxe-Corton.

2018 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru “Les Chaignots”

For all its density and weight, an earthy suggestion of Burgundian terroir still hides within.
2020 Bourgogne Passetoutgrain
France | Burgundy
February Club Gourmand ~ Today, awareness of Passetoutgrain has largely faded, but if you look closely in cellars throughout Burgundy, you’ll notice many of the greatest domaines continue to uphold this tradition.
2019 Pouilly-Fuissé ”Climat Vieilles Vignes“
France | Burgundy
Limited to vintages where the weather hinders production of individual bottlings, Climat renders all the chart-topping qualities of the Robert family's Pouilly Fuissé holdings.
2020 Meursault-Blagny 1er Cru “La Genelotte”
France | Burgundy
De Chérisey produces classic Chardonnay that seems as if from a different time. White Burgundy like this doesn’t come around very often.

2021 Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Beaune

Lots of herbs and lemon curd precede its dry, racy finish. It’s a mouthwatering, drink-me-now white Burgundy.
2011 Meursault-Blagny 1er Cru “La Genelotte”

The vintage, austere and tense in its youth, has matured into the best a perfectly aged Meursault can offer.
About The Producer
Comtesse de Chérisey
The lost hamlet of Blagny, up in the hills between Puligny-Montrachet and Meursault in the Côte d’Or in Burgundy, is home to Comtesse de Chérisey. This almost magical, lost-in-time corner of the world boasts a unique microclimate, with a slightly different average temperature, exposition and soil than the rest of Burgundy. In our humble opinion, our friend and vigneron, Laurent Martelet, creates the most haunting masterpieces that emerge from this terroir. All of the de Chérisey vines are premier cru, are at least 60 years old, and they encircle their ancient cellar in the Hameau de Blagny.
About The Region
Burgundy
In eastern central France, Burgundy is nestled between the wine regions of Champagne to the north, the Jura to the east, the Loire to the west, and the Rhône to the south. This is the terroir par excellence for producing world-class Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
The southeast-facing hillside between Dijon in the north and Maranges in the south is known as the Côte d’Or or “golden slope.” The Côte d’Or comprises two main sections, both composed of limestone and clay soils: the Côte de Nuits in the northern sector, and the Côte de Beaune in the south. Both areas produce magnificent whites and reds, although the Côte de Beaune produces more white wine and the Côte de Nuits more red.
Chablis is Burgundy’s northern outpost, known for its flinty and age-worthy Chardonnays planted in Kimmeridgian limestone on an ancient seabed. Vézelay is a smaller area south of Chablis with similar qualities, although the limestone there is not Kimmeridgian.
To the south of the Côte de Beaune, the Côte Chalonnaise extends from Chagny on its northern end, down past Chalon-sur-Saône and encompasses the appellations of Bouzeron in the north, followed by Rully, Mercurey, Givry, and Montagny.
Directly south of the Chalonnaise begins the Côte Mâconnais, which extends south past Mâcon to the hamlets of Fuissé, Vinzelles, Chaintré, and Saint-Véran. The Mâconnais is prime Chardonnay country and contains an incredible diversity of soils.
